A Tactical Search Engine Marketing Concept for Financial Advisors

Overview: This exercise has 3 key benefits. (1) Boost your site positioning in Google (and other search engines). One of the factors Google uses to determine your site's Search Engine Ranking Position (SERP) is the amount of "inbound links" from other  popular sites. This tells Google that your site must be important (thus moving your site description up the list). (2) Use other sites as a "stepping stone" to get to your site. Instead of asking other sites to link to yours, take advantage of the powerful social networking craze and use these sites to get to yours. Many of these sites are strategically optimized for search engine marketing. Let's say a prospect types "Wealth Management Chicago" into Google. Maybe both your Facebook and Twitter pages show up in the search results. These sites would both have a company overview with a link to your site. Some pretty nice stepping stones if you ask me. (3) ROI. Take an hour out of your day and follow this guide to (a) identify keywords, (b) compose an overview paragraph, and (c) post it to location, directory, pr and social networking sites. Do it once, and forget it. "Traditional marketing only lasts a few seconds. Internet marketing lasts forever."

Step 1
Identify Important Keywords

Think about what your ideal prospect might type into Google to find you. These categories will help you cover the basics.

Company Info - ABC Advisors, LLC | Chicago, IL 12345 | 800-555-1234 (you might also add principles)
Services or Specialties - Wealth Management, Retirement Planning, etc.
Niche or Target Markets - boomers, Christian, teachers, business owners, etc.
Common Service Area Names - Greater Chicago, Clark County, Columbia Gorge, etc.

Test the popularity of keyword phrases here.


Step 2
Write your overview paragraph

IDEA: You might first identify a few features followed by benefits. This will help encourage viewers to click links that jump to your website. Example: "Securities offered through TD Ameritrade." This might mean you have the protection of a large firm.

IDEA: You might follow this effective formula. (a) Pique Their Interest - A short statement or question to grab your target market's attention. (b) Build Awareness - Who you are and what you do. (c) Inform & Educate - Why someone should choose you, or What separates you from your competition. (d) Call To Action - Invite the viewers to take the next step. Contact info and site link. Maybe a free review.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to include the keywords you identified above, your contact information, and your site link (http://).

EXAMPLE:  ABC Advisors, LLC is a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) located in ...... We service the greater Chicago area, A County, B County, C County, Another Popular City, A landmark, Location nickname, and the entire state of Illinois (IL). Our services include ............ John Smith CFP, Ole Svenson, and Lina Svenson are all principle advisors at our firm. We help ....(niche / target market) plan for their secure retirement future. Contact us today for a free review.
